What is ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)?
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by an ongoing pattern of inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development. ADHD affects both children and adults and can contribute to difficulties at school, at work, and in social interactions.
Symptoms of ADHD
ADHD symptoms are divided into two categories of behavioral problems: inattentiveness, and hyperactivity and impulsiveness. Some individuals with ADHD have problems in both categories, but this is not always the case.
- Inattentiveness: Often has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks, fails to complete tasks, seems not to listen when spoken to directly, is easily distracted, forgets daily activities.
- Hyperactivity and Impulsiveness: Often fidgets with or taps hands or feet, leaves seat in situations when remaining seated is expected, feels restless, has difficulty engaging in activities quietly, talks excessively, has difficulty waiting their turn.
